Mayrhofen and Ski Zillertal 3000
Mayrhofen (630 m) is the largest resort of the Zillertal with two ski mountains reached by gondola from the village: the Penken – the main area with the Harakiri, Austria's steepest groomed piste at 78 %, and the Penken Park – and the gentler Ahorn for beginners and families. Together with Hintertux and the Tux valley they form Ski Zillertal 3000 with around 200 km of pistes; the Zillertal Superskipass covers the whole valley with over 500 km.
The village has the valley's biggest choice of hotels, ski schools, hire shops and bars; the après-ski at the Penken base and the Ice Bar is famous, and the Hintertux Glacier for year-round skiing is a 30-minute drive further up.

The journey from Innsbruck Airport to Mayrhofen
From the airport we take the A12 Inn valley motorway east to Wiesing, then the Zillertal road through Fügen, Kaltenbach and Zell am Ziller to Mayrhofen – 75 km, about 1 hour. The valley road is a main road cleared round the clock; on changeover Saturdays in February it can take 15 minutes longer.
Hotels in Hippach, Ramsau and Schwendau just before Mayrhofen are covered by the same fixed price; Finkenberg above the village is a separate route.
