Finkenberg and the Penken
Finkenberg (840 m) is a village of about 1,500 inhabitants above the Ziller gorge with the Finkenberger Almbahn gondola leading straight up to the Penken – the main ski mountain of Mayrhofen (Ski Zillertal 3000, around 142 km of pistes, including the Harakiri, Austria's steepest groomed piste at 78 %). Guests here get ski-in/ski-out hotels and a quieter evening than in Mayrhofen, which is five minutes away by ski bus.
The Hintertux Glacier, with year-round skiing, is a 20-minute drive further up the valley and included in the Zillertal Superskipass.

The journey from Innsbruck Airport to Finkenberg
We take the Inn valley motorway to Wiesing and the Zillertal road through Fügen, Kaltenbach and Zell am Ziller to Mayrhofen, then climb the Tux road to Finkenberg – about 1 hour 10 minutes. The road is a main road served by buses to Hintertux and is cleared constantly.
Hotels in the upper part of the village and at the Almbahn base are reached by car without difficulty in winter.
